I'm reading Neverwhere again.

You know how we were all children and immersed ourselves in fantasy novels - Alice in Wonderland, Little Mermaid, even A Midsummer Night's Dream - that bring us to another world as like and unlike our own. Soon enough for me though, the fantasies lost its substance.

One can only believe in elves and dragons for so long when you don't see them as often as jeeps.

That's where modern fantasy and science fiction catches my attention. I can't help but feel as if the story is around me when Sawyer have one of his characters transfer trains at Bloor Station. The part where an alien steps in the ROM was especially hilarious when I lived a mere 2 minute walk away.

A part of me wished that life was more exciting than the surface, like Neverwhere's London-below. Somewhere dangerous and exciting and new - where the realm of fantasy and our gray world merge into one. Where there is more to be worried about than a job and a home.
