Between Two Worlds
For my mother - I miss home.
End of a dock covered in ice
Silent as a walk in the blizzard
Snow blankets smother song of the waves
Cold voice calling a blue sunrise
Shivering as I did in a hot January
Fingertips separating a sheet of ice
Memories of an ocean
Ever changing, haunts me
Assaulted by the smell of
sea of markets of overwhelming heat
Fishing boats cut the waves, catching endless riches of the sun
Their nets leaving iridescent white diamonds
Neverchanging and everchanging
A fish's heart throbbing under a butcher's knife
Unnamed food at the cornercart, roasted water beetles over black rocks
as I throw my legs over the makeshift barrier against the ice
Hugging myself to keep the heat in
Watching the sun come up
Waiting for the tide to come in
Walking back to a house far away from home
